Have you ever heard about the K-pop group BLACKPINK? BLACKPINK is a K-pop group that debuted on August 6, 2016. According to Erica Gerald Mason, BLACKPINK means to say that 'Pretty isn’t everything.' It also symbolizes that they are a team that encompasses not only beauty but also notable talent." And now I am going to tell you about BLACKPINK and how it raised popularity.
How did BLACKPINK rise in popularity?
According to Quora.com, “their hit song ‘ddu-du ddu-du' is what made them launch popularity, the performance attracted many viewers. This song is also the song that reached worldwide and the song that got thousands of people to discover BLACKPINK’s other music. According to Kat Moon, BLACKPINK also became popular because of the mini album Square One, which consisted of only two songs — "Whistle" and "Boom Bayah and made them popular after. Also, according to Erica Gerald Mason between 2016 and 2020 from the release of The Album, Blackpink released fewer than 22 songs, all singles. Another part of Blackpink's popularity lies in their songs, which talk about independence, vulnerability, bilingual lyrics, and undeniable stage presence. According to a 6th grader, when they met, Rosé and Lisa knew little Korean, and then Jisoo the oldest, and Jennie taught them Korean.
Who are the members of BLACKPINK?
Lisa is the youngest member of the group; she is born and raised in Thailand. She is the main dancer of the group; Lisa was in a dance crew at an early age before she auditioned for K-POP idol. Other than Thai Lisa can speak Korean, after moving to South Korea in 2011 she learned English, Japanese, and basic Chinese.
Jisoo (Full name: Kim Jisoo) Age: 27
Jisoo is the oldest member of the group; she is born in Gunpo, Gyeonggi, South Korea. Jisoo is a singer and often referred to as the mood maker of the group and she has a quirky sense of humor. Although she is the only member who does not speak English fluently, she is able to speak Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
Rosé (Full name: Park Chae young) Age: 25
Rosé is born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, where she took part in the YG Entertainment’s audition and placed first. Rosé is the main singer of the group, she can speak fluent English, Japanese, and Korean. Rosé has a distinct voice and is easy to recognize. She can play the guitar and the piano. She can sing English and Korean songs.
Jennie (Full name: Kim Jennie) Age: 26
Jennie is the main rapper of the group and sings. Jennie was a “trainee” for just shy of six years — the longest of the members. She lived in New Zealand for a period then moved back to South Korea in 2010. She speaks fluent English in addition to Korean and Japanese. She is the first out of all to release a solo titled “SOLO.”
How did BLACKPINK become popular on social media?
According to Kat Moon, every new release BLACKPINK has grown in popularity on social media. They have in February 2022 over 28million followers. Leading up to the release of “Kill This Love,” the teaser photos of the individual members sporting new hair colors and serving sinister looks each received more than two million likes on the official account. On Twitter, the signature phrase from the group’s debut song “Boombayah” — “Blackpink in your area” — is regularly trending as Blackpink announces new plans to, quite literally, enter the areas of international fans.
What is going on with BLACKPINK now?
BLACKPINK is releasing in 2023, and they are probably not going to renew their contract with YG Entertainment. According to Starr Bowenbank, BLACKPINK promised a welcoming collection on March 2, 2022, but they never did have one. Also, All members, with the exception of Jisoo, have released solo music — Jennie with “Solo” in 2018, Rosé with “Gone” and “On the Ground” in March 2021, and Lisa with “Lalisa” and “Money” in September 2021.
In conclusion, BLACKPINK has been a well-known K-POP group. But they have not posted anything since 2020 which is bad news. Even though they didn't post anything since 2020 they still have great songs to listen to. You can try and start listening to some K-POP and BLACKPINK songs!
